Josette

A mom cat, Josette, was found outside living at a clubhouse pool area. She had 6 kittens. A good Samaritan made sure they had food and water, but the weather was about to turn.

They had been there for days and someone was dropping some food and water thinking an owner would come to pick them up but no one ever came.  Mom was skinny and the weather was about to change.

They were living in a pile of leaves, outdoors, with minimal shelter from the elements, or predators.  Two people decided to take action.  They sent a message there was a Mom cat and kittens living at a clubhouse in a complex in north Denver.

Reaching out to friends, they found a safe landing.  A couple with dogs and cats, but they had room to take the cats in until the next day to surrender to a PACFFA organization.

They had to crawl under to get the kittens.  This of course stressed the Mom, but she did not act aggressively.  Once they got the kittens she came forward and they captured her as well.  All the cats were safely in a crate and together.  They got on the road to bring to the temporary shelter with the couple that stepped up.

The first night they would spend in the garage where it was quiet away from the other pets in the house and sheltered from the weather.  Moved into a larger crate with heaps of food, water, warm blankets, and a little house to hide in, they settled in pretty quickly.

The day 6 kittens and mom were brought to safety

Mom was named Josette, after one of the rescuer’s mom.  The kittens were a mixed bag: 3 orange tabbies, one tuxedo, a calico, and a gray/black striped tabby.

That first night, Mom ate a remarkable amount of food and the kittens were nursing as fast as she could produce milk.  If they were not found, she may not have been able to produce enough milk for 6 kittens.

They were outside living like this.

A shelter took ownership the next day, did a vet check, and the prognosis was good for all the kittens. Mom was running a temperature and had a heart murmur.  Nothing life-threatening, but something to watch.  The shelter, practicing strong responsible intake engaged the temp family to act as fosters for the duration of the kittens’ growth.

Josette and her 6 kittens have had their second checkup.  Kittens are eating on their own, all healthy.  Josette gained enough weight that she is being spayed.  Everyone has at least their first round of shots and has been dewormed as well.

This family will go home because we can depend on good shelters and rescues, and the general public.  If you give people the chance to help, they will

These cats:

Mom – Josette – She is very friendly.  She can be touched and lifted.  She does not like her touching her belly but she is nursing.  She rubs up against us, our legs when standing and comes over when sitting on the floor to get attention.  She is extremely sweet, loves the ear scratches and will preen when petting from the head to the end of the tail.  She really is quite affectionate.

She has an interesting habit of hissing about any communication.  Its almost like she knows one word.  Its never aggressive, she hisses when we walk in sometimes as she runs towards us and rubs against us.  She does it on the first pet and leans in.  She does it when she looks out the window.  She will sometimes give a little meow, but she has this cute little hiss that has nothing to do with anger.

Mom had a temperature at initial vet check and seems to have a heart murmur.  But she is doing great and gained a little weight.  Kittens are eating soft food and KMD and nursing.  But nursing less with all the other food at their beck and call.

Captain Jack – Black and white Tuxedo kitten named after the 1973 Billy Joel song.  He is a normal kitten.  Loves to tussle with his siblings and is happy amusing himself with toys.

Sir Edmund Jr. – Named after Sir Edmund Hillary who already is a resident in the house for the last decade.  Turns out Jr.  was named before checking sex.  Sir Edmund Jr. is female and has been the biggest cuddler to humans.

Kimba – Calico – little one.  Named after the first cat the I ever had which was a calico as well.  She is spunky being the smallest, plays with everyone like she is the same size.  She is involved in everything but seems like the last to participate.  Once in, she is all in.

Alacrity Sebastian Fitzhugh – biggest kitty, orange with white paws.  He is very cute.  He’s definitely the most adventurous although his orange brethren seem to be of similar personality.

Tyrell -  orange, much like his two orange brothers.  Tyrell likes the chase when he is in the big room and climbing.  Has gotten bolder about approaching each day.

Link – Link is the orange one with the whitest face.  He is the littles of the three orange, I think.  He is very comfortable when picked up and will look straight at you.
